Many fuse boards or consumer unit require upgrading and changing for many reasons. The ultimate reason being yours and the electricians safety or any persons who uses or works on the electrical system. This maybe that your fuse board or consumer unit doesn’t provide the correct protection under fault conditions, it may also be that your fuse board or consumer unit isn’t correctly labeled and scheduled with poor electrical connections. All of these are common reasons to upgrade or change your fuse board or consumer unit.

As of Jan 2016 the regulations regarding fuse boards and consumer units are changing. Therefore all of these types of enclosures or assemblies must be of a non-combustible material please see below.
The intent of Regulation 421.1.201 is considered to be, as far as is reasonably practicable, to contain any fire within the enclosure or cabinet and to minimise the escape of flames.
